Nota de alcance: Pequeña área blanquecina en la superficie de la YEMA DEL HUEVO donde comienza la segmentación. Tras la fecundación, el citoplasma se desplaza desde el polo vegetal alejado en el vitelo al polo animal donde tendrá lugar la segmentación. Finalmente, el área germinal se aplana formando una capa de células (BLASTODERMO) que recubre totalmente la yema.

Upon fertilization the cytoplasm streams from the vegetal pole away from the yolk to the animal pole where cleavage will occur. This germinal area eventually flattens into a layer of cells (BLASTODERM) that covers the yolk completely.
