Note d'application: | The Portaria No. 2,914 of December 12, 2011 of the Ministry of Health, Brazil, establishes in its Article 34: "It is mandatory to maintain a minimum of 0.2 mg / L of free residual chlorine or 2 mg / L of residual chlorine or 0.2 mg / L of chlorine dioxide over the entire length of the water distribution system (reservoir and network) ". The purpose of using chlorine in water supply systems is to disinfect. However, due to its high oxidizing power, its application in the treatment processes has served diverse purposes such as taste and odor control, algae growth prevention, iron and manganese removal, color removal and control of the development of biofilms in pipes. It allows in a very simple way, to assure the innocuity of the water, from the production until the moment of the use, which results in great benefit, in small systems of rural, riverside, indigenous communities, as well as in big cities.
