Note d'application: Crecimiento dirigido de un organismo en respuesta a la gravedad. En las plantas, la raíz tiene gravitropismo positivo (crecimiento hacia abajo) y el tallo principal tiene gravitropismo negativo (crecimiento hacia arriba), independientemente de la posición en que estén colocadas. El gravitropismo de las plantas parece estar controlado por la auxina (AUXINAS), una sustancia reguladora del crecimiento de las plantas. (Concise Dictionary of Biology, 1990).
