Nota de escopo: Complejo multienzimático responsable de la formación de ACETIL COENZIMA A a partir del piruvato. Las enzimas componentes son la PIRUVATO DESHIDROGENASA (LIPOAMIDA), la dihidrolipoamida acetiltransferasa y la LIPOAMIDA DESHIDROGENASA. El complejo piruvato deshidrogenasa es objeto de tres tipos de control: es inhibido por la acetil-CoA y el NADH; es influído por el estado energético de la célula; y es inhibido cuando un residuo específico de serina de la piruvato descarboxilasa es fosforilado por ATP.
