Nota de escopo: Enfermedad endémica que afecta a personas y animales de África Central. La producen varias especies de tripanosomas, particularmente T. gambiense y T. rhodesiense. Su segundo huésped intermediario es la MOSCA TSETSÉ. La afectación del sistema nervioso central produce la enfermedad del sueño africana. La nagana es una tripanosomiasis rápidamente mortal que afecta a los caballos y otros animales.
