Las cadenas se designan convencionalmente por sus coeficientes de sedimentación. En los eucariotas existen cuatro cadenas grandes, que se sintetizan en el nucléolo y constituyen aproximadamente el 50 por ciento del ribosoma. (Dorland, 28th ed)
