Nota de escopo: Mecanismo de muerte celular regulada que se caracteriza por cambios morfológicos característicos en el núcleo y en el citoplasma, como la división endonucleótica del ADN genómico, en puntos internucleosómicos regularmente espaciados, es decir, FRAGMENTACIÓN DEL ADN. Está programado genéticamente y sirve como equilibrio para la mitosis en la regulación del tamaño de los tejidos animales y en la mediación de procesos patológicos asociados al crecimiento tumoral.
