Nota de escopo: Determinantes singulares controlados genéticamente presentes en los ANTICUERPOS cuya especificidad está limitada a un único grupo de proteínas (p. ej., otra molécula de anticuerpo o una proteína individual de mieloma). Parece que el idiotipo representa la antigenicidad del sitio de unión al antígeno del anticuerpo y que está codeterminado genéticamente con él. Se han localizado de modo preciso los determinantes idiotípicos en la REGIÓN VARIABLE DE LAS INMUNOGLOBULINAS de ambas cadenas polipeptídicas de las inmunoglobulinas.

The idiotype appears to represent the antigenicity of the antigen-binding site of the antibody and to be genetically codetermined with it. The idiotypic determinants have been precisely located to the IMMUNOGLOBULIN VARIABLE REGION of both immunoglobin polypeptide chains.
