Scope note: Propiedad física que muestra diferentes valores en relación con la dirección en que se efectúa la medición. La propiedad física puede estar en relación con la conductividad eléctrica o la refracción de la luz. En cristalografía, describe los cristales cuyo índice de refracción varía según la dirección de incidencia de la luz. También se denomina acolotropía y colotropía. El concepto opuesto a anisotropía es la isotropía, en la que, cuando se realiza la medición según ejes dirigidos en todas direcciones, se obtienen siempre los mismos valores que caracterizan el objeto..
