World Drowning Prevention Day
Each year, approximately 300,000 drowning deaths occur worldwide, 25% of which affect children under the age of 5.
To raise awareness and prevent this form of suffocation, United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/75/273 establishes July 25 as the annual World Drowning Prevention Day.
