World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day is on September 10th to curb rising suicide rates in the Americas and raise awareness on mental health. The Americas were the only region in the world to experience an increase in deaths caused by suicide. Aiming to reverse this trend and save lives, the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) launched an initiative to offer practical interventions and evidence-based policies to countries of the continent.
By integrating information sources and standardizing terminology, DeCS indirectly contributes to the formulation of public policies aligned with available scientific evidence for the implementation of suicide prevention strategies.
