Nota de alcance: Región del MESENCÉFALO de localización dorsomedial respecto de la SUSTANCIA NEGRA y ventral respecto del NÚCLEO ROJO. En esta región se originan los sistemas dopaminérgicos mesocortical y mesolímbico, incluida una importante proyección al NÚCLEO ACCUMBENS. Se sospecha que la sobreactividad de las células de este área contribuye a los síntomas positivos de la ESQUIZOFRENIA.

Nota de alcance: A region in the MESENCEPHALON which is dorsomedial to the SUBSTANTIA NIGRA and ventral to the RED NUCLEUS. The mesocortical and mesolimbic dopaminergic systems originate here, including an important projection to the NUCLEUS ACCUMBENS. Overactivity of the cells in this area has been suspected to contribute to the positive symptoms of SCHIZOPHRENIA.
