Nota de escopo: Programa de investigación y desarrollo iniciado por la NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE (Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina) para construir fuentes de conocimiento con el fin de ayudar al desarrollo de sistemas que ayuden a los profesionales sanitarios a recuperar e integrar la información biomédica. Se pueden utilizar las fuentes de conocimiento para relacionar los distintos sistemas de información para poder superar los problemas de recuperación causados por las diferencias en terminología y la diseminación de información importante en las muchas bases de datos. Las tres fuentes de conocimiento son Metathesaurus, Semantic Network y Specialist Lexicon.
