Nota de escopo:	Estado en el que el PESO CORPORAL es claramente superior a los estándares recomendados, generalmente debido a acumulación de un exceso de GRASAS en el cuerpo. El estándar puede variar con la edad, el sexo, la base genética o el medio cultural. En el ÍNDICE DE MASA CORPORAL, un IMC superior a 30,0 kg por m2 se considera obesidad y un IMC superior a 40,0 kg por m2 se considera OBESIDAD MÓRBIDA.

A status with BODY WEIGHT that is grossly above the recommended standards, usually due to accumulation of excess FATS in the body. The standards may vary with age, sex, genetic or cultural background. In the BODY MASS INDEX, a BMI greater than 30.0 kg/m2 is considered obese, and a BMI greater than 40.0 kg/m2 is considered morbidly obese (MORBID OBESITY).
