World Cancer Day

PAHO is working with countries in the Americas to reduce premature deaths from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including cancer, by 25% by 2025. In February, PAHO observes two cancer awareness days: World Cancer Day and International Childhood Cancer Day.

International Childhood Cancer Day is a collaborative global campaign to raise awareness about childhood cancer and express support for children and adolescents with cancer, survivors, and their families.

The Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC) aims to reduce the suffering of children with cancer and achieve a cancer survival rate of at least 60% by 2030.

DeCS includes several terms related to cancer, most of them within the broad subcategory Neoplasias [C04]. This topic is so present in the biomedical literature that there is a specific qualifier that is only applicable to neoplastic diseases, to indicate metastases: “secondary.”
