Scope note:	Género de ARCHAEA cocoides, aerobias, quimiolitótrofas y termoacidófilas. Tienen forma muy irregular, a menudo lobulada, aunque ocasionalmente esférica. Se distribuyen por todo el mundo, aislándose de suelos ácidos calientes y del agua. Utilizan el azufre como fuente de energía.

Scope note:

A genus of aerobic, chemolithotrophic, coccoid ARCHAEA whose organisms are thermoacidophilic. Its cells are highly irregular in shape, often lobed, but occasionally spherical. It has worldwide distribution with organisms isolated from hot acidic soils and water. Sulfur is used as an energy source.
