Existen diversos síndromes clínicos dependientes de la localización exacta del foco convulsivante. Las convulsiones del lóbulo frontal pueden ser idiopáticas (criptogénicas) o causadas por un proceso patológico identificable, como son las lesiones traumáticas, neoplasias, u otras lesiones macro o microscópicas en los lóbulos frontales (convulsiones sintomáticas del lóbulo frontal).
