Scope note: Especie tipo del género NOROVIRUS que se aisló por vez primera en 1968 en las heces de escolares de Norwalk, Ohio, aquejados de GASTROENTERITIS. Los viriones son partículas esféricas, sin cubierta, que contienen una sola proteína. Existen múltiples cepas con denominaciones que se corresponden con los lugares donde se produjeron los brotes.
