Scope note: Técnica de fijación ósea que emplea fijadores externos (FIJADORES EXTERNOS) para el alargamiento de miembros, corrección de pseudoartrosis y otras deformaciones, y para favorecer la cicatrización de fracturas patológicas o traumáticas e infecciones, como la osteomielitis crónica que sin este tratamiento podrían tener mal pronóstico. El método fue ideado por el cirujano ortopédico ruso Gavriil Abramovich Ilizarov (1921-1992).
