Insecticida y herbicida que se ha utilizado también como preservativo para la madera. El pentaclorofenol es un contaminante ambiental ampliamente distribuído. El envenenamiento crónico y agudo por pentaclorofenol constituye una preocupación médica. Se está explorando de modo activo la gama de acciones biológicas, pero es claramente un potente inhibidor enzimático y ha sido utilizado como herramienta experimental.

An insecticide and herbicide that has also been used as a wood preservative. Pentachlorphenol is a widespread environmental pollutant. Both chronic and acute pentachlorophenol poisoning are medical concerns. The range of its biological actions is still being actively explored, but it is clearly a potent enzyme inhibitor and has been used as such as an experimental tool.
