Note d'application: Quinto par craneal y el mayor de los mismos. El nervio trigémino es un nervio mixto, motor y sensitivo. La porción sensitiva, la más grande, forma los nervios oftálmico, mandibular y maxilar los cuales transportan las aferencias sensitivas de los estímulos internos o externos procedentes de la piel, los músculos y las articulaciones de la cara, la boca y los dientes. La mayoría de estas fibras se originan a partir de las células del GANGLIO DEL TRIGÉMINO (ganglio de Gasser) y se proyectan hacia los NÚCLEOS DEL TRIGÉMINO del tronco encefálico. La parte motora, más pequeña, se origina en el núcleo motor del nervio trigémino, en el tronco encefálico, e inerva los músculos de la masticación.

Note d'application: The 5th and largest cranial nerve. The trigeminal nerve is a mixed motor and sensory nerve. The larger sensory part forms the ophthalmic, mandibular, and maxillary nerves which carry afferents sensitive to external or internal stimuli from the skin, muscles, and joints of the face and mouth and from the teeth. Most of these fibers originate from cells of the TRIGEMINAL GANGLION and project to the TRIGEMINAL NUCLEUS of the brain stem. The smaller motor part arises from the brain stem trigeminal motor nucleus and innervates the muscles of mastication.
