Estado independiente, es un archipiélago en el Golfo Pérsico occidental, al noroeste de Catar. Comprende las islas bajas de Baréin (la mayor), Muharraq, Sitrah, y otros islotes. Tiene extensos campos petroleros. El nombre proviene del árabe al-bahrayn, "los dos mares", debido a que yace en medio de una bahía con sus "dos mares" al este y al oeste de ellas. An independent state, an archipelago in the western Persian Gulf, northwest of Qatar. It comprises low-lying islands of Bahrain (the largest), Muharraq, Sitra, and several islets. It has extensive oil fields. The name comes from the Arabic al-bahrayn, "the two seas", with reference to its lying in the middle of a bay with its "two seas" east and west of it.
