Thus, it is characteristic of all treatment processes by the action of microorganisms, and can be classified as aerobic and anaerobic. One of the most widely used modalities is the activated sludge process, which can be classified as an aerobic treatment, growth in suspension in the liquid mass and with biomass retention.
