Note d'application:	Estructuras anormales localizadas fundamentalmente en las dendritas distales que, junto con los OVILLOS NEUROFIBRILARES y las PLACAS SENILES, constituyen las tres señales morfológicas de la ENFERMEDAD DE ALZHEIMER. Los hilos del neurópilo están formados por pares de filamentos helicoidales o rectos, que están compuestos por proteínas tau asociadas a microtúbulos anormalmente fosforiladas. Se ha sugerido que éstos hilos hallados en el neurópilo tienen un importante papel en los trastornos cognitivos que se observan en la enfermedad de Alzheimer.

Abnormal structures located chiefly in distal dendrites and, along with NEUROFIBRILLARY TANGLES and SENILE PLAQUES, constitute the three morphological hallmarks of ALZHEIMER DISEASE. Neuropil threads are made up of straight and paired helical filaments which consist of abnormally phosphorylated microtubule-associated tau proteins. It has been suggested that the threads have a major role in the cognitive impairment seen in Alzheimer disease.
