Nota de escopo: Término descriptivo general que se refiere a cualquier masa de tejido que abulta o se proyecta hacia afuera o arriba desde el nivel superficial normal; es macroscópicamente visible como una estructura hemiesferoidal, esferoidal o irregular que crece desde una base poco ancha o un tallo fino. Antes se aplicaba a las neoplasias de la mucosa nasal; en la actualidad este término se utiliza para designar las protrusiones de este tipo en cualquier mucosa. (Dorland, 28a ed; Stedman, 25a ed)
