EC 3.2.1.8 cataliza la endohidrólisis de los enlaces 1,4-beta-D-xilosídicos; EC 3.2.1.32 cataliza la endohidrólisis de los enlaces 1,3-beta-D-xilosídicos; EC 3.2.1.37 cataliza la exohidrólisis de los enlaces 1,4-beta-D a partir de las terminaciones no reductoras de los xilanos; y EC 3.2.1.72 cataliza la exohidrólisis de los enlaces 1,3-beta-D a partir de las terminaciones no reductoras de los xilanos. Se han identificado otras xilosidasas que catalizan la hidrólisis de los enlaces alfa-xilosídicos.
