Scope note: División craneosacra del sistema nervioso autónomo. Los cuerpos celulares de las fibras preganglionares parasimpáticas se encuentran en núcleos del tronco encefálico y en la médula sacra. Establecen sinapsis en los ganglios autónomos craneales o en los ganglios terminales próximos a los órganos diana. El sistema nervioso parasimpático generalmente actúa para la conservación de los recursos y para restaurar la homeostasis, a menudo con efectos recíprocos sobre el sistema nervioso simpático.

They synapse in cranial autonomic ganglia or in terminal ganglia near target organs.
