Scope note: Grandes masas nucleares subcorticales derivadas del telencéfalo y localizadas en las regiones basales de los hemisferios cerebrales. Cada uno está constituido por el cuerpo estriado, formado a su vez por los grandes núcleos lenticular y caudado, una delgada banda llamada claustro (antemuro) y un grupo de pequeños núcleos denominado cuerpo amigdalino o amígdala.
