Scope note:	Es la vesícula interrmedia de las tres vesículas primitivas del encéfalo embrionario. Sin ulterior división, el mesencéfalo se transforma en una porción corta, constreñida, que conecta el PUENTE y el DIENCÉFALO. El mesencéfalo contiene dos partes principales, el TECHO DEL MESENCÉFALO dorsal y el TEGMENTO MESENCEFÁLICO ventral, que contienen componentes de los sistemas auditivo, visual y otros sistemas sensitivomotores.

Scope note:

The middle of the three primitive cerebral vesicles of the embryonic brain. Without further subdivision, midbrain develops into a short, constricted portion connecting the PONS and the DIENCEPHALON. Midbrain contains two major parts, the dorsal TECTUM MESENCEPHALI and the ventral TEGMENTUM MESENCEPHALI, housing components of auditory, visual, and other sensorimoter systems.
