Scope note: La arteria que irriga casi toda la mitad izquierda del colon transverso, todo el colon descendente, el colon sigmoide y la mayor parte del recto. Es más pequeña que la arteria mesentérica superior (ARTERIA MESÉNTERICA SUPERIOR) y asciende desde la aorta por encima de su bifurcación en las arterias ilíacas comunes.

It is smaller than the superior mesenteric artery (MESENTERIC ARTERY, SUPERIOR) and arises from the aorta above its bifurcation into the common iliac arteries.
