Es un tumor relativamente poco frecuente que puede ocurrir en cualquier edad, desde la infancia. La mayoría de los pacientes tienen menos de 20 años y son más frecuentes en las mujeres que en los varones. La lesión usualmente es un tumor dérmico o subcutáneo, profundo y solitario, de 3-30 mm de diámetro, localizado en la cabeza, cuello o extremidad superior. Scope note: A tumor composed of cells resembling those of the hair matrix, which undergo 'mummification' and may calcify. It is a relatively uncommon tumor, which may occur at any age from infancy. The majority of patients are under 20, and females are affected more than males.
