Scope note: Proteínas de la superficie celular que se unen al GABA y que controlan un canal integral de cloro de la membrana. Los receptores GABA-A son los receptores inhibitorios de neurotransmisores con mayor prevalencia en el cerebro. Se han clonado varias isoformas, y corresponden a una superfamilia que incluye los receptores nicotínicos, los receptores de glicina y los receptores de 5HT-3. La mayoría de los receptores GABA-A tienen sitios moduladores separados sensibles a las benzodiazepinas y a los barbituratos.
