Scope note: Caída periódica de PLUMAS, PELO o cutícula. La muda es un proceso de eliminación o descamación, especialmente la eliminación de una cubierta externa y el desarrollo de una nueva. Este fenómeno permite el crecimiento en los ARTRÓPODOS, la renovación de la piel en los ANFIBIOS y REPTILES y la eliminación del recubrimiento invernal en las AVES y MAMÍFEROS.

Scope note: Periodic casting off FEATHERS; HAIR; or cuticle. Molting is a process of sloughing or desquamation, especially the shedding of an outer covering and the development of a new one. This phenomenon permits growth in ARTHROPODS, skin renewal in AMPHIBIANS and REPTILES, and the shedding of winter coats in BIRDS and MAMMALS.
