Scope note: Especie de bacterias asporógenas, grampositivas, de las que se distinguen tres tipos según su características en cultivo. Estos tipos (gravis, intermedius y mitis)fueron clasificados originalmente en función de la gravedad clínica de los casos de los que se aislaron con mayor frecuencia las distintas cepas. Esta especie es el agente causal de la DIFTERIA.
