Scope note: Infección vírica que afecta a PRIMATES y ROEDORES. Su presentación clínica en humanos es similar a la de la VIRUELA con FIEBRE, CEFALEA, TOS y EXANTEMA doloroso. Es causada por el VIRUS DE LA VIRUELA DE LOS SIMIOS y generalmente se transmite a los seres humanos a través de mordeduras o por contacto con SANGRE de un animal. La trasmisión entre humanos es relativamente baja (significativamente menor que la viruela).
