Scope note: Infección vírica que afecta a PRIMATES y ROEDORES. Su presentación clínica en el ser humano es similar a la de la VIRUELA, con FIEBRE, CEFALEA, TOS y EXANTEMA doloroso. Está causada por el VIRUS DE LA VIRUELA DEL MONO y generalmente se transmite a los seres humanos por mordeduras o por contacto con SANGRE de un animal. La trasmisión entre seres humanos es relativamente baja (significativamente menor que la de la viruela).
