Scope note: Actitud o postura producida por la contracción concomitante de los músculos agonistas y antagonistas de una región del cuerpo. Afecta más frecuentemente a los músculos axiales largos del tronco y de las cinturas de las extremidades. Las afecciones que se caracterizan por episodios persistentes o recurrentes de distonía como manifestación fundamental de la enfermedad reciben la denominación de TRASTORNOS DISTÓNICOS. Scope note: An attitude or posture due to the co-contraction of agonists and antagonist muscles in one region of the body. It most often affects the large axial muscles of the trunk and limb girdles. Conditions which feature persistent or recurrent episodes of dystonia as a primary manifestation of disease are referred to as DYSTONIC DISORDERS. (Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p77)
