Descriptor Spanish: Senescencia de la Planta
Descriptor senescencia vegetal
Entry term(s) envejecimiento vegetal
senescencia celular vegetal
senescencia de las flores
senescencia de las hojas
senescencia replicativa celular vegetal
Scope note: En las plantas, al igual que en los animales, se produce un proceso irreversible de cambios dependiente de la edad que conduce a la detención de la DIVISIÓN CELULAR y/o la MUERTE CELULAR PROGRAMADA.

Plant Senescence - Preferred
Concept UI M000748948
Scope note In plants, similarly as in animals, an age-dependent irreversible process of changes leading to the arrest of CELL DIVISION and/or PROGRAMMED CELL DEATH.

Leaf Senescence - Narrower
Concept UI M000748949
Scope note The last stage of leaf development in which the leaf cells undergo an ordered process of disassembly of organelles and changes in gene expression and metabolism. During leaf senescence the chloroplasts breakdown and metabolism switches from photosynthesis to converting growth-phase accumulated materials into exportable nutrients for seed development, in annual plants; or to the stems and roots to be stored for the next season, in perennials.
