Scope note: Aumento de tamaño de la GLÁNDULA TIROIDES, cuyo peso puede incrementarse desde aproximadamente 20 gramos hasta varios cientos de gramos en los seres humanos adultos. El bocio se puede observar en individuos con función tiroidea normal (eutiroidismo), con hipofunción tiroidea (HIPOTIROIDISMO), o con sobreproducción hormonal (HIPERTIROIDISMO). El bocio puede ser congénito o adquirido, esporádico o endémico (BOCIO ENDÉMICO).
