Filters in which organic and ammoniacal nitrogen is transformed into oxidized forms such as nitrates. They have advantages that make them viable in terms of their employability, such as: cheap installation, high tolerance to organic and hydraulic load variations and little need for maintenance. The aerobic filter is classified as an obligatory secondary treatment, as it has the characteristic of enabling the removal of turbidity in a consistent way for the reuse of building water; however, it is highly recommended for serial use after anaerobic treatment, due to its advantages in relation to the decomposition of organic matter.
