Filters consisting of a biological reactor that purifies gray water by means of non-aerobic microorganisms dispersed in the empty space of the reactor and on the surfaces of the filtering medium, having the capacity to retain solid materials. Every anaerobic process is affected by the temperature variation of the sewage and its application must be done judiciously. The process is efficient in reducing high organic loads, as long as the other conditions are satisfactory. Anaerobic filter effluents can give off odors and be dark in color.
