La telespirometría utiliza un pequeño dispositivo de mano que proporciona pruebas tanto para la espirometría como para la oximetría. La oximetría mide la saturación de oxígeno, una medida del porcentaje de glóbulos rojos que transportan oxígeno al cuerpo. Telespirometry utilizes a small hand-held device that provides testing for both spirometry and oximetry. Oximetry measures oxygen saturation, a measurement of the percentage of red blood cells that are carrying oxygen to the body. The device records the results, which can then be sent via telephone in much the same way that a pacemaker transmits information to the healthcare provider. This has been proposed as a means to monitor lung function, sleep apnea or desaturation occurrences. An example of this device includes, but may not be limited to, the Spirotel.
