Note d'application: Sustancia que aparece en la orina de los mamíferos y también en el plasma sanguíneo como metabolito del triptófano. En la enfermedad de Hartnup se produce un incremento de la excreción urinaria de indicán a causa de la degradación bacteriana del triptófano no absorbido.

Note d'application: A substance occurring in the urine of mammals and also in blood plasma as the normal metabolite of tryptophan. An increased urinary excretion of indican is seen in Hartnup disease from the bacterial degradation of unabsorbed tryptophan.
