Nota de escopo: Estado independiente en las Indias Occidentales. Su capital es Castries. Probablemente fue descubierta por Colón en 1502, y los primeros asentamientos fueron Ingleses en el año 1605. Durante el siglo XVII contendieron por ella franceses e ingleses, quedando neutral en 1748, aunque cambio de mano muchas veces durante las guerras del siglo XIX. Obtuvo el autogobierno en asociación con Gran Bretaña en 1967 y, finalmente, obtuvo su independencia en 1979. Colón la llamó así para conmemorar el día de su descubrimiento, la fiesta de Santa Lucia, una virgen y mártir siciliana.
