Se utiliza la respiración o ventilación artificial en individuos que han dejado de respirar o que tienen INSUFICIENCIA RESPIRATORIA, con el fin de aumentar la captación de oxígeno (O2) y la eliminación de dióxido de carbono (CO2).

Scope note: Any method of artificial breathing that employs mechanical or non-mechanical means to force the air into and out of the lungs.
