Son las OPSINAS conjugadas con los cromóforos basados en la VITAMINA A. Los cromóforos capturan los fotones de la luz, lo que conduce a la activación de las opsinas y a una cascada bioquímica que finalmente excita a las células fotorreceptoras.

Scope note:

Photosensitive protein complexes of varied light absorption properties which are expressed in the PHOTORECEPTOR CELLS. They are OPSINS conjugated with VITAMIN A-based chromophores. Chromophores capture photons of light, leading to the activation of opsins and a biochemical cascade that ultimately excites the photoreceptor cells.
