Scope note: Alteraciones patológicas que se producen en el axón y cuerpo celular de una neurona proximal a la lesión axonal. El proceso se caracteriza por cromatolisis central que se distingue por aplanamiento y desplazamiento del núcleo, pérdida de los cuerpos de Nissl y edema celular. En las neuronas motoras bajas se produce cromatolisis central.

The process is characterized by central chromatolysis which features flattening and displacement of the nucleus, loss of Nissl bodies, and cellular edema.
