Scope note: Enfermedad vírica transmitida por mosquitos y producida por el VIRUS DEL NILO OCCIDENTAL, un FLAVIVIRUS endémico en regiones de África, Asia y Europa. Las características clínicas comunes son CEFALEA, FIEBRE, exantema maculopapular, síntomas gastrointestinales y linfadenopatías. También pueden darse casos de MENINGITIS, ENCEFALITIS y MIELITIS. En ocasiones, la enfermedad puede ser mortal o puede dejar déficits neurológicos residuales en los pacientes que sobreviven.
