Scope note: Grandes mamíferos marinos del orden CETACEA. En el pasado fueron muy apreciados comercialmente por su aceite, su carne, tanto como alimento para los seres humanos como para su uso en ALIMENTACIÓN ANIMAL y como FERTILIZANTES, así como por sus ballenas. En la actualidad existe una moratoria para casi toda la caza comercial de ballenas, ya que todas las especies están consideradas como amenazadas o en peligro de extinción.
