Alrededor de 15 papillomavirus humanos están implicados en la infección asociada, y cuatro de ellos causan neoplasias cutáneas. La enfermedad comienza en la niñez con pápulas rojas y se disemina posteriormente por el cuerpo como escamas grises o amarillas.
